Head of Development
Join us as Head of Development at Twin Harbour Interactive!
At Twin Harbour Interactive we strive to develop high-quality strategy games and make them accessible for all players around the world. In our eyes game development is a promise for fun and entertainment – that’s what we live and aim for!
Innovation is part of our DNA. We actively integrate Artificial Intelligence to reduce repetitive tasks and create space for what really matters: strategic thinking and human connection. We don't just use AI - we look for people who can shape the way we work with it.
We are looking for a Head of Development who can take the lead in a complex, fast-paced environment, build trusting relationships among various departments, and foster genuine technical momentum. In this role, you will lead a team of Technical Leads being ultimately responsible for ensuring we have the right talent mix, team size, and engineering culture to deliver strategy games and the platform that powers them.
By supporting the definition and execution of roadmaps for both game and engine development, you ensure that our teams maintain their technical excellence while delivering engaging player experiences that align with our studio’s vision of deep, long-term strategy games. Balancing the immediate needs of game development with the long-term evolution of the engine, you’ll drive improvements to our development practices and culture, enabling our developers to create features that set our titles apart in the market.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with Technical Leads, Director of Game Development and other stakeholders to create a technical roadmap and prioritise technology projects.
Ensure our tech teams and development culture supports our vision and strategy.
Ensure development schedules are made visible.
Manage and optimize resource allocation across multiple projects.
Proactively optimize AI-driven workflows to automate repetitive tasks, freeing capacity for strategic thinking and enhanced human collaboration.
Promote high standards through code reviews, best practices, and mentorship to maintain a clean, reliable, and maintainable codebase.
People & Leadership
Create a development culture and developer experience that lets developers thrive.
Work with the VP Technology, Director of Game Development and other stakeholders to align technical capabilities with creative vision.
Support the Director of Game Development, Vice President Technology and Head of Platform in defining and executing the studio's technical strategy.
Manage 3rd party relationships - budget approval by VP Technology.
Drive the recruitment and retention of diverse engineering talent across game and engine teams.
Collaborate with the VP Technology and Director of Game Development on the budget and oversee the training budget.
Mentor and develop technical leaders.
Act as the line manager for Technical Leads and manage their career development, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Technical & Strategy
Work with the Director of Game Development, Head of Plattform and Vice President Technology to evolve our engine technology to support the long term product/portfolio strategy.
Collaborate on, define and maintain technical standards with the Director of Game Development and Tech Team Leads that ensure our games perform well across all target platforms.
Stay current with trends, especially in development culture, developer experience and new ways of working.
Drive innovation in areas crucial to developer experience and culture for example by using AI or other innovative tools and processes.
YOUR PROFILE
Proven experience leading engineering teams and a track record of building trust with senior technical staff, particularly in fast-paced environments.
Strong engineering background as a full-stack or backend developer; you can engage credibly on architecture and technical trade-offs.
Experience closing the loop between product and engineering - you understand both languages and can mediate effectively.
Agile fluency that goes beyond process compliance: you know when to lean on structure and when to cut through it.
Proactive mindset toward Artificial Intelligence, moving beyond basic usage to actively shaping and optimizing AI-driven workflows.
Genuine enthusiasm for games and for the players who spend years inside them.
Fluent in English; German is a plus.
Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience - what matters is depth, not credentials.
